SYTYCD really starts tonight

As much as I love the auditions and Vegas week, I love the actual competition to the 10th power! In past years, the be-all-end-all blog on So You Think You Can Dance is Ducky Does TV and this year is no exception. I got the following spoilers from him.

Rayven Armijo & Jamie Bayard - Hip Hop
Susie Garcia & Marquis Cunningham - Waltz

Kourtni Lind & Matt Dorame - Jazz

Chelsea Traille & Chris Jarosz - Cha Cha
(wrong)
Chelsie Hightower & Mark Kanemura - Contemporary

Kherington Payne & Twitch - Broadway

Comfort Fedoke & Thayne Jasperson - Jive (wrong)
Katee Shean & Joshua Allen - Hip Hop
Jessica King & William Wingfield - Tango
Courtney Galiano & Gev Manoukian - Disco

The rumor is that the Jazz routine is by Mandy Moore and the Contemporay routine is by Mia Michaels! I love both of them! I'm hoping that Dan Karaty did NOT do the hip hop routines but I'd bet money that he did at least one of them. Shane Sparks (who is awesome) is busy doing Randy Jackson's America's Best Dance Crew so he won't be doing the hip hop on this show this year. Another of my fave choreographers that will be missing this year is Wade Robeson. He is awesome and is busy doing ANOTHER Circ de Soleil show in Vegas. I don't know if you've ever seen one of those but the one I saw was strange and did not make me want to see any more.

One more quick note. I forgot to mention in my last blog that as long as William Wingfield is on the show, Debbie Allen can not be a judge! I think that just my garner William a few votes from me! I do not need to hear about the Debbie Allen Dance Academy, or whatever the hell it's called, again.

That's it for now...more in an hour or so.

---------------------

It's on!!

Cat's hair is a bit too messy for me but she still looks good. She introduces everyone and there is a LOT of eye candy! I don't know who's going to be my TVBF this year...maybe Thane? The judges tonight are Nigel, Mary and Dan Karaty.

Cat goes over the rules and my eyes just glazed over. I'm not sure what she said but this is how the show works. The kids are paired and will stay in those pairs as long as both of them are in the competition. Each week they draw a dance out of the hat. They do the dance for votes. We vote and the lowest 3 pairs are pulled out into the bottom and have to dance for their lives. The judges then decide which guy and which girl goes home that week. This system works pretty well.

commercial

Pair: Rayven Armijo & Jamie Bayard
Style: Hip Hop
Choreographer(s): Napoleon and Tabitha aka "NAPPYTABS" (I kid you not!)
Song: American Boy by Estelle
Background Nugget: Rayven is the oldest at 28. Jamie auditioned with his girlfriend that got cut in Vegas.
Thoughts: Well, I'm not sure what to say. I didn't really like it and I think it was the choreography. I think they danced it well but it just didn't do anything for me. Crappy choreography combined with no face time until now means they may be in trouble.
Note Worth Move: Rayven pulled Jamie's pants down and he was wearing some type of UnderRoos.
Judges: Nigel likes the choreography but doesn't think it's going to be memorable. Mary called it Cotton Candy Hip Hop and liked it. Dan calls it right and says it wasn't quite there. Says not bad but not great.
Number: 1-888-83676-01

Pair: Susie Garcia & Marquis Cunningham
Style: Smooth Waltz
Choreographer(s): Hunter Johnson
Song: Dark Waltz by Hayley Westenra
Background Nugget: Susie is the slutty teacher. Marquis auditioned in DC!
Thoughts: They were pretty good. Captivating was the word that was going through my mind (until the end). They looked great together and had some really nice lines. They were much better then the first couple.
Note Worth Move: REALLY bad lift at the end.
Judges: Nigel calls it difficult and comments on their wonderful lines (just like me). Mary says they pulled it off and did a great job. Dan felt like he was watching an almost perfect ending to a love story. Dan's the man so far tonight!
Number: 1-888-83676-02

commercial

Pair: Kourtni Lind & Matt Dorame
Style: Jazz
Choreographer(s): Mandy Moore!!!!!
Song: Tainted Love by Soft Cell (AWESOME)
Background Nugget: Kourtni graduated high school at 16. Matt likes dancing. They are both very tall.
Thoughts: THAT was the best so far. I think I love Mandy Moore because she uses 80's song a lot...and because she's really good. Kourtni (I'll never get used to spelling it that way) really looks like Uma Thurman. They both look good together. I'm glad they paired the tall people together.
Note Worth Move: There was a cool move towards the beginning that was a kinda turn/splits thing on the floor that made me go "ummm".
Judges: Nigel says it was fun but that Matt dances with a stick up his ass. I didn't see that. Mary thought it was great. Dan calls everything great except the performance and says they have to do better. (Cat doesn't look like a giant next to them.)
Number: 1-888-83676-03

commercial

Pair: Chelsea Traille & Thayne Jasperson
Style: Cha Cha
Choreographer(s): Tony Meredith and Melanie LaPatin
Song: Oye Como Va (Latin/Trance Mix) by Cella Cruz
Background Nugget: Nothing note worthy that I can remember. Thane seems pretty funny though.
Thoughts: Thane will NOT be my TVBF this season unless the stylist start doing his hair 24/7. It was okay. It seemed a little slow. Thane seemed more concerned with the cameras then with his partner.
Note Worth Move: Lots of booty shaking
Judges: Nigel liked it. Mary give them two tickets on the Hot Tamale train. I can only hope that Dan sees what I see. Dan didn't see what I saw 'cause he loved it as well. Or maybe he just liked Chelsea.
Number: 1-888-83676-04

commercial

Pair: Chelsie Hightower & Mark Kanemura
Style:
Contemporary
Choreographer(s):
Emmy Winning Mia Michaels!!!!
Song:
Beautiful by Me'Shell Ndogeocello
Background Nugget:
Chelsie was the one who's family lost everything. Mark is Hawaiian. Mia can be a bitch.
Thoughts:
THAT was FANTASTIC! Mia said it was how she envisioned Tim Burton's wedding and it was just that. It was quirky and strange but in a good way. My only complaint would be the dress that Chelsie wore. It got in the way sometimes...okay, a LOT.
Note Worth Move:
Chelsie rolled all the way down Mark's body and then he continued the roll around her.
Judges: Nigel loved it and thinks this is going to be a really good season. Mary loved it. Dan thinks it was amazing. It was!
Number: 1-888-83676-05

Pair: Kherington Payne & Twitch
Style:
Broadway
Choreographer(s):
Tyce Diorio
Song:
Too Darn Hot from Kiss me Kate
Background Nugget:
Twitch lost out to Hok last season. Kherington missed her high school graduation. They did a fist bump!
Thoughts:
Twitchington is a stupid name. They were pretty good but not as good as the audience thinks they are. Did you hear how loud they were? I will say that this was the first dance that I actually thought about the dancers having sex! I'm not sure why that was.
Note Worth Move:
They had some nice moves on the floor.
Judges: Nigel calls it very hot and says Kherington looked wonderful and Twitch looked like a Broadway dancer. Mary calls it hot too. She got teary talking about Twitch. Dan loved them both.
Number: 1-888-83676-06

commercial

Pair: Comfort Fedoke & Chris Jarosz
Style:
Jive
Choreographer(s):
Tony Meredith and Melanie LaPatin
Song:
Boom Boom by Big Head Todd & The Masters
Background Nugget:
Comfort is a female Hip Hop dancer. Chris was called a tree.
Thoughts:
I'm just not feeling them. It was okay but nothing special. The ending was a little odd because it seemed that Comfort just stopped dancing.
Note Worth Move:
Nothing much
Judges: Nigel doesn't think Chris is a tree. Mary liked them both. Dan thinks they did a good job too. I'm just not seeing what the judges are seeing. That's nothing new.
Number: 1-888-83676-07

commercial

Pair: Katee Shean & Joshua Allen
Style: Hip Hop

Choreographer(s):
NAPPYTABS
Song:
Oh Christ! It's No Air by Jordin Sparks and Chris Brown - YUCK!
Background Nugget:
Katee and her best friend were up for the last spot together. Joshua seems like a really nice guy who loves his mom and admits he's a cry baby.
Thoughts:
I'm a nerd. I'm all teary eyed! It was wonderful and emotional and brilliant! The performance of the night. I now no longer care about any of the other couples. I also love me some NappyTabs!! I also love this song now!
Note Worth Move:
The whole entire thing!!!!
Judges: "That was really, really good!" said Nigel and he calls it his favorite routine of the night. Mary didn't expect this and get teary. Dan says they killed it! I LOVED IT!!!
Number: 1-888-83676-08

commercial

Pair: Jessica King & William Wingfield
Style:
Tango
Choreographer(s):
Hunter Johnson
Song:
Tango from Cirque Du Soleil
Background Nugget:
Jessica missed spelled Vegas during the auditions. William trained with Debbie Allen at the Debbie Allen Dance Academy.
Thoughts: They seemed to have a lot of chemistry in the video package but I really didn't feel it during the performance. About half way through, Jessica seemed to fall apart and began missing steps and faltering a bit. He seemed to do a good job but I was too busy watching her goof up.
Note Worth Move:
They did a weird lift at the end that included her clamping her legs around his chest.
Judges: Nigel thinks they coped well. Mary says Will owned it and called them the couple to beat. Now I'm starting to wonder what's in Mary's cup. Is it the special Paula Abdul Cocktail? Dan says they were hot like fire.
Number: 1-888-83676-09

commercial

Pair: Courtney Galiano & Gev Manoukian
Style:
Disco
Choreographer(s):
Doriana Sanchez
Song:
Boogie Wonderland by Earth, Wind & Fire
Background Nugget:
Courtney was a Nicks City Dancer. Gev is from Kazakhstan. Disco is hard.
Thoughts:
Loved it! They both looked like they could be in Saturday Night Fever. It was fun. had lots and lifts, and was one of the tops of the night. It was pretty hot too!
Note Worth Move:
At one point he had his face in her neck and it gave me the shivers!
Judges: Nigel didn't love it and called it Disco Duck. Mary loved it and loved the lifts. Dan enjoyed it and thought it was good.
Number: 1-888-83676-10

Overall, the talent is awesome this season. I felt the judges went WAY too easy on the kids tonight. I know it's the first night but not everyone was awesome.

Top:
Katee and Joshua

Really Good:
Chelsie Hightower & Mark Kanemura
Courtney Galiano & Gev Manoukian

Good:

Susie Garcia & Marquis Cunningham

Kourtni Lind & Matt Dorame

Kherington Payne & Twitch

Not so good:
Rayven Armijo & Jamie Bayard
Chelsea Traille &
Thayne Jasperson
Comfort Fedoke & Chris Jarosz
Jessica King & William Wingfield

One more thought - I wrote too much!!

hi! okay so tonight the dancing i was looking forward to was mia michaels choreography...i looooved it! i love the songs she picks! her work is always so intimate and refreshing! i loved the couple that performed to her stuff...thanks for posting all this info in your blog because i sooo wanted to know what song they danced to....it's nerdy but i wanted to know so i could make it my myspace song...lol yep.

Hi Leslie! Thanks for stopping by. I was afraid I was writing too much. It's fun and I do love this show sooo much. Mia's was awesome and I like that couple as well. My fave of the night was Katee and Joshua. I got all misty! There will be a few songs I'll be downloading from iTunes tomorrow including that darn No Air!

Ramalama Bang Bang from Season 2 is still one of my favorite songs!

OH! I forgot to ask...Do you have a blog?

Great, great overview.
I think we like the same dancers.
My only problem with Matt and Kourtni, is that he's not man enough to lift her. She is a full grown woman and he just doesn't have the frame to lift her correctly. He needs to get in the gym and add about 20 pounds of muscle. If he were built like Joshua, lifts would not be a problem for him.
