Downtown, Where all the Lights are Bright!

I love living downtown. The weather was a little better yesterday for my walk home so there were more people out. As I was walking home, I was looking around and my husband came out of the wine store just as I was walking by! We got to walk home together! It was quite cosmopolitan!

We had a glass (or two) of wine at home before walking to Sweet Caroline's for dinner and a night of poker. I drank WAY too much because I could and staggered home, alone, at about 10:30. I got knocked out of the second game quickly due to the massive amount of beer I drank during the first game. I will NOT be doing that again!

Sanjaya is gone and I'm sad! He made the show worth watching for me. I still think he should have sang "Indian Outlaw" by Tim McGraw! I guess I'll be voting for Jordin from now on. Next week is the big "Idol Gives Back" thing. I'll be glad when that's over! I hope they go back to the 1/2 hour elimination show after that. I can only take so much filler! The theme for next week is, of course, Inspirational Songs. Oh Joy.

American Idol - Not today

It's Tuesday so it's American Idol but I'm not into it at all. After I got home from work, I cleaned and cleaned and cleaned. I'm pooped!

On my way home, I went to Dollar General and picked up a few things I needed. The rest of the way home was pretty interesting. I passed a woman talking on her cell phone, an old guy in a HUGE cowboy hat and a suit, and a juggler. I kid you not! There was a guy on the mall juggling 5 balls and trying to throw in a spin. He was getting frustrated when I walked by but I told him it was impressive! I love living downtown!

Idol started when I was sitting down to eat so I decided not to blog about it like I normally do. Scary Phil was good. Jordin was the best. Sanjaya sucked but his hair was interesting. LaKisha didn't quite do it for me or the judges. Chris sucked and is in danger. (Ryan is a tiny man. A tiny, tiny man.) Melinda was the same as always, good but boring to me. I guess Blake gets the pimp spot. He sounds fine...as usual.

Bottom three: Phil, Chris, LaKisha
Going home: Phil (I was going to say Chris except he's going to get a TON of votes because he was teary eyed when he gave a shout out to VA Tech.)

This season is disappointing to me and I'll be voting for Sanjaya. Lets hope he stays out of the bottom three again this week!! I hope that this whole Sanjaya thing changes things with American Idol. I want them to look for the most talented singer in America and not just have a casting call for another reality show. We have enough reality shows that those people can try out for. Let's have the singers, please!

Moving Update!

Well, we're almost all moved in to the new place and moved out of the old. I'm going to take more pics on my walk home tonight and I may just find time to post them...hopefully. I have to do a little shopping, arrange Avon deliveries, unpack, and watch American Idol tonight. We'll see how much I get done. I'm also having Poker withdrawal pretty bad so I might just have to play a little bit too.

I HAVE to tell you about the awesome cable deal I got yesterday! I still am in shock! At our old place, we had basic cable and Internet to the tune of $93.00 a month. I got a deal yesterday that includes basic cable, digital cable, HBO, Showtime, Starz, and Internet for $42.50 per month for the next year! I know, you're thinking "what happens after the year is up?" I asked them that and everything will go back to full price which is $98.00 per month (that's just $5.00 more than what I was paying). I had to ask the nice cable lady three times if that price included everything.

BTW, in case you don't follow Idol, Haley went home last week. I think this week is Scary Phil's swan song. Some people think Sanjaya will be going home this week but they are just delusional if you ask me! He's got at least one more week.

Ameri-Lo!!

J-Lo is on AI tonight! I liked what she said in her opening. Okay, I'll admit it. I've always been a J-Lo fan. I have one of her Spanish CD and I don't even speak Spanish! This blog isn't going to be as long because I'm trying to do ten different things and one of them is packing! The movers are coming on Sunday! I'm so excited!!!

Anyway, on with the show. Melinda is in the dead man's spot but she'll be safe even though she is BORING AS SHIT! She can sing but that doesn't mean I have to like it. Simon agrees with me on the boring part.

LaKisha is next. Don't like her and this song did nothing to change that. Ditto for Chris but he was the best so far.

I do love J-Lo! She is ACTUALLY giving good advice!

Haley is rockin' her "assets!" She is not good and I think she's going home. She SUCKED!!!!!

Phil is singing through his nose tonight which doesn't do him any favors. He sucked and will be in the bottom three...AGAIN.

Jordin rocks! She loves 80's music!! Well, tonight is kinda boring all around. I'll still vote for Jordin.

Blake sounds okay but...again...boring. I don't get it. Is the band too slow? Everything has been pretty boring. Latin music rocks so what's going on?

Sanjaya picked the best song of the night! They gave him the pimp spot too! He was awesome!!! I wonder how many people are sitting in their living rooms stunned! Rocking a new hair-do too!

I think it will be Haley, Phil, and LaKisha in the bottom three with Haley going home (but I wish it was Phil).

This just in...again!

This is a picture of my brother when he was in Chicago on a recent trip. I need a caption! This is the second time I'm posting this in hopes of getting some more ideas. This is what I have so far:

PI said...
"I've got a secret but I promised I wouldn't tell anyone in the whole world!"

Susan said...
"They're after me, I have to hide!"

Jean-Luc Picard said...
"Don't turn around!"

I have my favorite. What are your ideas?

An Interview with Susan!

The most talented Susan from A Slice of Life has interview we with her five most pressing questions!!

1. Who is your 2nd choice for AI?

Well, it seems like this is the year the talent pool is a little shallow except for one. This contestant keeps on learning and getting better each week and it's not Sanjaya. I do admire him for not giving up and putting up with a lot of crap and My first, second, third and final pick is Jordin. Yes, Melinda is an excellent singer but she's boring and so is LaKisha. Blake beatboxes too much, Chris R. is trying too hard to be this year's Elliott and failing, Phil is just too scary, Haley is boring as well and Chris S. and Gina are gone so that just leaves Jordin who is fantastic! Sanjaya got half of my votes this week but won't get any next week if he picks a boring song again. Sanjaya has been fun and I'll give him one more shot to pull it off but after that, I'm done.

2. What do you adore most about your hubby?
I love everything about my hubby (who I met at a bar as well) but I would say I adore his sense of humor. He can always make me laugh. It's hard to explain because he doesn't tell jokes he's more of an improv comic. I'll ask him a question and he'll just start making stuff up without missing a beat. It amazes me sometimes.

3. Kids or no kids?
My standard answer was "sometimes I want them but most times I don't" until yesterday. I was walking to our new apartment (yeah!!!) and I passed a mom who's two year old was screaming at the top of his lungs. I mean make-your-ears-bleed screaming. I kept on walking and could still hear this kid over two blocks away! On my way back for our new apartment (yeah!!!), I passed her. She had a four year old, was pregnant, AND the two year old was still screaming. The poor woman was in tears and there was nothing I could do. I felt so sorry for her and I decided that I never wanted a stranger to feel that sorry for me...ever! So the answer is no kids and don't want any. *I reserve the right to change my mind again at anytime!*

4. What’s your favorite dessert?
There are so many to choose from! Today I'd have to go with Ben & Jerry's Willie Nelson Peach Cobbler. It is to die for!! The Food Lion has been out of it for TWO WEEKS! Martin's didn't have it either. If this goes on for much longer, I'm going to have to form a search party!

5. What is something about you that most people would never guess on first meeting?
That I am a very open and funny person. When I first meet someone, I hold back. I don't know why I do that it just takes me a long time to open up to a new person. It either takes about a year or five or six beers! I'm also a HUGE fan of all things Buffy (the TV show not the movie)! I recently spent $10.00 on the most recent issue of the Buffy magazine. Ten bucks for a magazine about a TV show that hasn't been on the air for FOUR years! My hubby says I can never do that again. I still have to buy the new comic book but that's only $4.00 so my hubby says that's okay.

Wanna play? Leave a comment saying, "Interview me." I'll respond by asking you five personal questions so I can get to know you better. If I already know you well, expect the questions to be a little more intimate! Then you will update your journal/blog with the answers to the questions. You will include this explanation and offer to interview someone else in the post.

I'll post your questions, if you want any, in a few days. Of course, you are under no obligation. Especially if you have already been interviewed.

All of this was borrowed from Susan!!

Thanks for the interview, Susan! It was fun and made me think!

Thanks!

I forgot to thank RenaRF for the video!

Thanks RenaRF! I love it!

Too Funny!

I had to share this!!

Swing Low, Sweet Chariot

Well, someone is going home tonight and my hope is Phil but it could be Gina. I heard that Tony won't be singing tonight. After all, he is 80 and he's been a VERY busy man!

Same old stuff: recaps, meet the judges, etc.

Ryan did say there would be a live performance but he didn't say by who. I heard they were trying to get Michael Bubble or however you spell his stupid last name! I've never liked him just because of his name.

Ford commercial: it's the Jamaica song! That had to be the worst commercial yet.

They're doing the groups-of-three thing.

Group one: Blake, Sanjaya and Chris are safe.

Group two: Haley, Gina and Phil are the bottom three.

Group three: Jordin, Melinda, and LaKisha are safe.

Am I right? Yeah! Now they let the bottom three stew for about 15 minutes!

Oh joy. It's Michael Bubble. I'm thrilled. I love Tivo!!

YUCK! I have to watch Phil again next week!

Gina is going home. That's too bad! Phil should be going home damn it! Gina was very boring last night but Phil was boring AND scary!

It was nice knowing ya Gina! I'm sure we'll see more of you!

Steppin' Out With My Baby...Sanjaya!

Tony Bennett is the guest star tonight and, as my friend Michelle said, this should be about as fun as watching paint dry! Tony Bennett is an American Treasure which means he's old and boring. I'm hoping he actually teaches the kids something and doesn't just say "sing from your heart" or "let your light shine."

And here we go! Same old crap in the beginning, blah, blah, blah. Ryan calls Tony the master. HEY! The first song that they're playing in the background for the Tony montage in the one I picked for the title! That's cool! He's 80! Wow!

Blake's singing Mac the Knife! I won a Karoake contest with this song. Blake reminds me of a cross between Bono and Sting. Angie thinks he looks like Popeye, I have to agree. He's in the Dead Man's Spot so that's a strike against him right from the get go. Is it just me or is he singing longer than normal? It was going so good until the scatting. I'm not a big scat fan, either singing or the "other" kind.

Harry Potter is coming to the Idol Gives Back thingy. I hope he is going to be wearing clothes! Those naked picutes were a little creepy. He's a little kid! Kelly is coming back for the thingy too!

Scary Phil is next and the practice doesn't sound so good. Tony likes him so I'm not liking Tony right now. Phil starts off out of key. Since it's a slow song, he might be out of key the whole time. He does look like that vampire from those really old movies (Nostrea or something like that). I don't like Phil and this song didn't change my mind. The thought of making love to him made me throw up a little in my mouth. Simon calls it dark. Well, that's because of his eyebrows. DUH!

Side Note: Randy, guy's shirts shouldn't sparkle.

Melinda is not breaking out of the box and that surprised look when she gets a complement is wearing THIN. She's sounds great but I'm bored. She grabbed my attention at the end. Here comes her surprised look again but not as big tonight. The judges love her as always. Simon didn't like the first half and either did I.

Side Note: I think they've been picking themes so Melinda and LaKisha won't have to go out of their boxes. (he, he, I said "box!") Oh to be a chosen one!

Oh good. Chris R. is next. I'm thrilled. Can you tell? Fast Forward through the stupid question and the stupid answer. He's singing Don't Get Around Much Anymore. I like this song too. He starts it rather pitchy and sounds bad. That could just be me. He throws in too many runs and really sounds like a goat at times. They called Elliott goat boy last year but Chris beats him in that department and ONLY that department. The judges don't agree with me, as usual.

Jordin is next! I love her! She's singing On a Clear Day. I'm going out on a limb and saying that she's going to win the whole thing! I'll be splitting my votes between her and Sanjaya tonight!

Gina is singing Smile. She looks a mess tonight. The hair is old, the makeup is too shiny, the outfit seems out of place and the song is VERY old sounding. I'm sorry but that was boring and so far the second worst tonight. Second only to Phil.

Sanjaya is singing Cheek to Cheek and his goal is to make America see that he can sing. I'm not sure if he's doing it. He needed to come out swinging. LOVED the dancing with Paula! I really like him! He does entertain! Paula says he's charming and he is.

Welcome to the Universe of Sanjaya! Lucky number 7! He is too cute for words! I just love this kid. He makes me smile!

Haley can sing but she's kinda boring most of the time but not tonight! She's playing to her strengths...sex appeal and legs. BTW, she sang Ain't Misbehaving. Paula was right, green is a good color for her.

LaKisha gets the pimp spot. She's singing Stormy Weather. I like this song too. She didn't start out well if you ask me. All of her songs end up sounding the same to me. I'm sure the judges will love her.

Well, nothing like last year but that's nothing new. Sorry, I forgot the songs that Phil and Melinda sang. I'm sure Jennifer or MJ has them. Tony wasn't much help to the kids but I do love his songs!!

Bottom Three: Phil, Gina, Haley

Who's going home: After the recap, I'd have to go with Phil. *crossing my fingers* I'm afraid it might be Gina packing her bags tomorrow instead.

Susan, I'll post my answers Thursday!

This just in

My brother Andy has been on a trip to Chicago from Pierre, SD this weekend. Most of the pictures are already online! Here's one that I thought you guys might be able to help me with. I need a caption! What are your ideas?

Movin' on up

I spent all day yesterday packing. When you live some where for 10 years, you accumulate a TON of shit! I did say that I was going to post pics of the new place but I was in such a hurry to measure the space that I forgot to take pictures. I'm a dummy! I did take some pictures of the downtown area for you to view!

This is the north end of the walking mall which runs about 4 blocks. This end is where all the action is. There is a great Italian restaurant called Violino's (right side of photo - green and yellow fence) Brewbaker's, another restaurant, is a very popular spot in Winchester (umbrellas on the left). During Apple Blossom, the fenced-in outside seating area is PACKED. Also on this end of the mall you can get your shoes shined, buy home brewed beer, get an excellent sandwich at the Cheese Board, buy a formal gown, stock up on fudge, and spend a few thousand dollar on a painting! There's also a Post Office and a Dollar General Store.

This isn't the best picture of the Court House Square but I was in a hurry. This is where the city holds concerts and has First Night on New Year's Eve. Village Square Restaurant is on the right and has great food. This section has a number of Interior Designers, a bead shop, a pottery shop, and a Daily Grind (Winchester's version of Starbucks). There are also additional restaurants and Wilken's Shoe Store in this section of the mall.

Here's my friend Angie in front of the fountain. We're pretending to work so she has a delivery for one of our customers.

This is the front of our new home! Our apartment is on the top floor, the two sets of windows on the right. The front entrance is on the bottom left of the photo.

Here's the view from the front door to the right.

Here's the view to the left.

And the view straight ahead. As you can see, we have a parking lot right in front of our door. We don't have to worry about where visitors are going to park! You can also see that we are on the quite end of the mall whicha a good thing is you're trying to sleep.

I think we are going to love it! I hate to move and dreaded having to do it until we got this apartment now I can't wait! I wish we were there now! I tried to talk my husband into moving this weekend but he talked me down. After all, we're not even packed!
